Cooker Oven overheats and burns eveything

by / Monday, 13 September 2021 / Published in Cooker & Oven, Thermostats & Regulator Switches

This video is part seven of the top ten faults on cookers and ovens. it will show you how to Troubleshoot faults and diagnose problems in your oven. It will lead you to the correct video and part that might need replacing. This video deals with the Cooker or Oven overheats and burns everything, in this video, we will look at

  1.  Faulty Oven Thermostats
  2. Faulty Cooker or Oven NTC sensors
  3. Damaged or faulty PCB's printed circuit boards
  4. How Cooker and Oven Thermostats & NTC sensors work

Cooker Oven overheats and burns eveything because the thermostats or ntc sensors can be faulty: Common Faults to look for.

  • Faulty Thermostats
Standard oven thermostats are a switch that is attached to a capillary tube which then goes down to the oven and into an expansion probe as the temperature rises the gas inside the probe expands and turns the switch off when it gets to the required temperature when the temperature falls below the level on the cooker the switch will then activate to allow electricity to go through to the element. the common faults that can occur with these. 1 the points made become charged or burnt and unable to carry the electricity through to the required element. 2 who capillary tube or the probe may be damaged and lose the gas therefore unable to turn the switch off this would mean the oven will overheat.
  • Faulty NTC sensors
NTC sensors are an electronic version of the thermostat as the temperature rises the resistance will change giving different ohms reading, if the NTC sensor goes outside of the manufactured requirements then the circuit board will not be able to understand the temperature (See the diagram below).
  • Damaged or faulty PCB's printed circuit boards
PCB stands for printed circuit board, there are many different ways that these can become faulty as I explained above if the NTC sensor is not giving the Correct reading, therefore, the printed circuit board will be unable to understand and the required temperature, sometimes the printed circuit board can also lose its programming due to electrical surges and other anomalies, it is quite common for the relays on circuit boards to become faulty as the points inside the relays can carbonize this is usually due you two impurities in the steel on the points or the relays are not rated high enough. the amperage load that occurs on the points can be anything up to 10 amps.
  • How Cooker and Oven Thermostats & NTC sensors work
In the video above I explain how the process works between the temperature in the oven being controlled by either a conventional thermostat or the more modern printed circuit board with NTC sensors.
